I know this has nothing to do Macs or OS X but I just had to!

GTA IV
This is one of the best games I have ever played. I’ve played the previous versions of GTA but this one wins hands down! I pre-ordered it from our local Future Shop here in Charlottetown, it was a mid-night release so I waited until 12am to get my copy (Special Edition).

I love the new Aiming & Cover System, it took a bit to get use to. I personally think that the graphics are amazing, there was so much work and detail put in on the City itself. I’ve read a few comments in regards to people not liking the graphics but I think they have no idea what they are talking about… Either that or they are between the ages of 12 - 16. Compare the graphics from GTA SA and GTA IV, there is a huge difference in the amount of details between the two games.

Stan Flack Stan Flack, founder of MacCentral and MacMinute has died. Stan passed away Monday, April 14th in his home located in Prince Edward Island Canada. Stan died from complications to a pre-existing condition, congenital liver disease.

So sad… Stan Flack was a great guy and opened my eyes to a lot of things.
I live here in PEI and I first met Stan 2 years ago at the Dooly’s pool hall.
Being a big Mac Fan myself we had a lot of great conversations, more then a few times Stan and I were the last ones at the bar conversing about his media and mac stuff in general. The last time I saw him was about 6-7 months ago and I would have never thought that he had congenital liver disease, something I guess that he never wanted to mention either though.

Rest in Peace Stan. We had some great times together .

Safari 3.1 incorporates the latest changes from Webkit, which supposedly is the “World’s fastest web browser now for Mac and PC’s”. Apple makes mention of the loading times , which web pages load 1.9 times faster then IE 7 and 1.7 times faster Firefox 2. I have not updated my Safari so I can’t really rant about it until I get it installed and play around with it.

Apple has finally released Mac OSX 10.5.2 (I’ve been waiting). It is available via the “Software Update” and is about 180MB in size. I have not installed it yet, so I really can’t say much about it, once I get home after work, I will be running the update.
Here is a short and simple list of what has been updated :

  • Airport: Improves the connection reliability and stability
  • Back to my Mac: Adds support for more third-party routers.
  • Dock: Updates Stacks with a List view option, a Folder view option, and an updated background for Grid view.
  • Desktop: Addresses legibility issues with the menu bar and now with an option to turn off transparency in Desktop & Screen Saver preferences.
  • Desktop: Adjusts the menus to be slightly-less translucent overall.
  • iSync: Adds support for the Samsung D600E and D900i phones.
  • RAW Image: Adds RAW image support for several cameras, as detailed in this article.
  • Safari: Addresses issues with Safari reliably resolving certain domains.
  • Time Machine: Adds a menu bar option for accessing Time Machine features (the menu extra can be enabled in Time Machine preferences).
  • Time Machine: Improves backup reliability when computer name contains slash or non-ASCII characters.
  • Time Machine: Addresses issues in which some external drives are not recognized by Time Machine.

Apple has introduced the Macbook Air, the thinnest laptop in the world! My first thoughts when saw this on Apples website, I was thinking to myself, “There has to be some down falls due to its size”. Reading over the Specs , it has an Audio out port, one USB 2.0 port and a Micro DVI port, which i guess is sufficient but not for my needs. The other downfall and what I think rather disappointing is that you need to purchase the “External Macbook Air SuperDrive”, which takes up the one USB port you have available. I’m unsure at this time if you can use other external SuperDrives/ComboDrives with the Macbook Air, I’m sure you could though…
